Review – Jorn – Traveller

Jorn - Traveller01. Overload
02. Cancer Demon
03. Traveller
04. Window Maker
05. Make Your Engine Scream
06. Legend Man
07. Carry The Black
08. Rev On
09. Monsoon
10. The Man Who Was King

Before this album was released it was revealed that guitarist Trond Holter (Wig Wam) and bass player Bernt Jansen (Wig Wam) had joined the band.

I have to say I’m glad they have joined the band, because the music sounds a lot better on this album than the previous ones. I really liked “Bring Heavy Rock To The Land” but this album is way better.

This album is filled with an insane amount of great riffs, solos and leads. In my opinion it’s actually Jorn’s vocals that are the weak part here. When I listened to the album I thought probably a million times that this would sound so much better with another vocalist instead. I think a lot of the good songs would turn into perfect songs with another vocalist. “Window Maker” would have been a perfect song if the vocals had been laid down in a different way. The song is great, but the vocals are kinda boring at times.

There’s no doubt that Jorn Lande is an extremely talented vocalist.. It’s just that he doesn’t do the vocals the way I wish they were. But there’s a few songs here where he really hits the right spot! That’s just my opinion though, I know lots of people that love the way he does the vocals, and you would be stupid if you don’t hear that he’s an amazing vocalist.

Still, this album is without doubt the best thing Jorn have released!

Review: Megadeth – Super Collider (2013)

Megadeth - Super Collider01. Kingmaker
02. Super Collider
03. Burn!
04. Built For War
05. Off The Edge
06. Dance In The Rain
07. Beginning Of Sorrow
08. The Blackest Crow
09. Forget To Remember
10. Don’t Turn Your Back…
11. Cold Sweat

Megadeth have not done much wrong after Chris Broderick joined the band, and they don’t do it this time either. Super Collider is the “worst” they have released with Chris Broderick in the band, but that does not mean it’s a bad album. Endgame and Th1rt3en were diamonds.

There’s less 5-star tracks on this album than the last two, but they still have a pretty high overall-level on the album. There’s not really any tracks I didn’t like. The weirdest thing here is that Dave Mustaine don’t sound as angry as he always has, not a bad thing actually, but he could try to mix up “angry-Dave” and “nice-Dave” on their next album.

I’ve heard many people talk about how much they fear that this album will turn into a new “Risk”.. Don’t worry, this is not anywhere close to “Risk” (even though I actually thought Risk was a pretty good album).

Review: Gyllene Tider – Dags Att Tänka På Refrängen (2013)

Gyllene Tider - Dags Att Tänka På Refrängen01. Det Blir Aldrig Som Man Tänkt Sej
02. Man Blir Yr
03. Singel
04. Allt Jag Lärt Mej Om Livet (Har Jag Lärt Mej Av Vera)
05. Tio Droppar Regn
06. Jag Tänkar Åka På En Lång Lång Lång Lång Lång Resa
07. Lyckopiller
08. Chikaboom
09. Anders Och Mickes Förste Band
10. Tiden Är En Dåre Med Banjo
11. Knallpulver
12. Dags Att Tänka På Refrängen

Gyllene Tider have always been one of those bands that I like a few songs from, but never cared to check out the rest of their material. So when I heard that they would release a new album I decided to check out the whole thing this time. I don’t regret that! Even though this is not exactly my new favorite album, there’s a lot of tracks worth checking out.

The lyrics are as usual in swedish. So if you don’t understand swedish, and hate music where you don’t understand the lyrics.. don’t check it out.

The first half of the album is pretty cool, and the best songs on the album you will find on this half of the album. I actually rated all of the first 6 songs between 4 and 5 stars. The “4 star songs” here are great, but they just lack that little extra ingredient that would give them 5 stars.

In the second half everything get’s weird. It feels like some of the songs have been kinda forced out and they don’t sound that inspired here. Some of the songs are just boring. 2 of them starts out pretty good, but they ruin everything with abrupt transitions. For example ‘Anders Och Mickes Förste Band’.. The song starts out great, but after 2 minutes, this really unnecessary part starts. I was just sitting there thinking “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO THAT FOR?” I wish they would have ended the song after the last chorus before the weird part, would have been way better that way.

They end the album with a great song though. ‘Dags Att Tänka På Refrängen’ is a great song, and a great way to end the album, and they kinda save their asses a little with this ending. Starting and ending an album with great songs is always a good way to make the listener remember the album after they have listened to it.

Overall I like this album, and they have made me want to check out the rest of their albums too. I’m sure there’s lots of hidden diamonds in their older albums too. I’ll definitely listen to this album more.
