I loved “Black Gives Way To Blue”, their last album. Alice In Chains was better with Layne, but “Black Gives Way To Blue” proved that they could make it work without him too. This album is the album I was afraid “Black Gives Way To Blue” would be. It’s without doubt their worst album.

There are lots of good ideas, cool solos, great riffs and amazing vocals here. But the bad thing is that there’s not really that many songs here that are good all the way through. Some start with a cool riff and then they go over to a really boring part. Some songs are just boring, and then they put up a great solo, or amazing vocals. Which means there’s lots of songs that are just ok (3/5) on the album.

It’s not a terrible album, but it’s much worse than anything Alice In Chains have released earlier. They have always released great albums, and this one is just ok, nothing special.
