News: Steven Tyler On Working With Johnny Depp: ‘It’s Fuckin’ Kinky’

steven tylerAerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is currently working hard on his solo debut record, hoping to release it during the following year.

The singer recently sat down with Billboard to discuss the latest affairs in his musical career, including the upcoming album, which might feature special guest appearances from Elton John and Johnny Depp.

“I’m just doing a solo record ’cause I think it’s fuckin’ kinky to go write a song with Johnny Depp,” the frontman said. “I think it’s fuckin’ rediculous to go write a bunch of songs I started five years ago and never finished. It feeds my passion. I like traveling all over the place and writing songs and seeing what we catch. It’s kind of like driftnetting for songs, right.”

Tyler also pointed out that the fact that he’s working on a solo record doesn’t mean Aerosmith is either on hold or breaking up, saying, “Me doing a solo record doesn’t mean the band isn’t working on a record – but I get that in the press one has to hear that from one lead singer of one Aerosmith.”

The singer previously discussed the sound of the solo record in a separate Rolling Stone interview, saying that he is looking to venture into electronica domain and “weirder, off-the-cuff stuff that I’m not sure Aerosmith would like.”

Tyler’s latest solo single, a Marti Frederiksen collaboration “(It) Feels So Good,” dropped during May 2011, debuting at No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

News: Dream Theater Complete New Album Mixing

Dream TheaterProg metal giants Dream Theater have officially brought the mixing process of their upcoming self-titled record to an end as they now anticipate the September 24 release date.

As a follow-up to 2011’s ‘A Dramatic Turn Of Events,’ the new studio effort will mark the twelfth release in the Dream Theater opus.

Guitarist John Petrucci posted a photo via his official Facebook page to mark the occasion, with an accompanying note saying: “And so our journey from writing to mixing comes to an end. Can’t wait to share the new DT music with everyone!”

“Dream Theater” was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, featuring Petrucci in charge of the production duties and Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush) handling the engineering and mixing.

“I see every new album as an opportunity to start over,” the guitarist said regarding the new album. “To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that.

“We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about ‘Dream Theater’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

News: Foo fighters Confirm Working On New Album

foo fightersAccording to drummer Taylor Hawkins, the new Foo Fighters record is well under way, as frontman Dave Grohl is working hard in the overtime mode.

The stickman pointed out that the band still has an itch to write hit singles, saying that he doesn’t think the Foo Fighters have yet released their ultimate biggest hit.

“We’re getting started,” Hawkins told Billboard. “We’re getting our ideas together. Dave has his brain working overtime, like usual, and he’s got a lot of great ideas, both musically and conceptually – none that I can speak of at this moment, but it’s gonna be great. It’s gonna be cool.”

When asked on whether the heat is on among the Foos ranks to make the new album as much as a hit record as its predecessors, the drummer commented: “Absolutely. You always want every one of them to be the best one you’ve ever done, and you always think you haven’t done your best one.”

He continued, saying, “Although some people may feel we have, I still think we haven’t written our ‘Hotel California’ or our ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ or whatever. You should always be a little scared… Every time you start a record, you have to be, like, ready to fuckin’ kill yourself or it’s not gonna be any good.”

During this year’s SXSW Festival, Grohl revealed he has “a crazy idea” on how he wants to make the new album. “It won’t be a conventional record”, the frontman said.

Initial reports of the new Foo Fighters dropped as early as late February, with Grohl announcing “really awesome, big plans for the next album.”

The latest Foo Fighters studio efford, “Wasting Light,” saw its release during April 2011 as the seventh record in the group’s opus. With 235,000 units shipped in the US within the first week, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
